3 hours in...

Kinja'd!!!

The easy part...

Kinja'd!!!

Gives me an excuse to strip, prime and repaint the battery tray...

Kinja'd!!!

Ill probably clean up the overspray from my rattle-can touch-up job while its all apart.

Kinja'd!!!

This is the scarry side. Almost all of that plumbing has to come off.

Kinja'd!!!

The factory manual says I can leave the front frame crossmember and axle on, but the dealership guy says “i like to take them off, gives more room to work...” we’ll see.

Kinja'd!!!

The offending leaky gasket is waaaaaay back in there...

Only like 7 hours of dissassembly to go...

This feels like doing an Audi timing belt.

$12 gasket, 20 hours labor. Whole front of the tractor, all engine accessories, cooling system, etc. has to come off :P

That would actually be more labor, since the cab would have to come off to do the clutch work...

Yeah. Its pretty ridiculous. At least its all made out of high-quality bubble-era Japanese steel and the half-million 10 and 12mm fasteners are largely free an d not badly coroded.

Sounds like it’d be easier just to cut off the front end and weld i n an entirely new engine...

Good luck! At least your tractor has a frame...that same gasket on ours would mean breaking the old girl in two...

I t’s really only a front sub-frame, but since the front axle is bolted to it, it’ s enough that it doesn’t have to come into two pieces, and remains self-supporting.
